Blue-Ray & HD DVD.Questions?

blue ray
gemini6187 asked:

Suppose you buy a Blue Ray or HD DVD, because you intend to by a Blue Ray or HD DVD player in the future. Can you play those discs now on a standard DVD player? Would there be any harm to your standard DVD player, or to the discs themselves if you did? If you can play them on a standard player, what would be the quality of the picture of having them played on a standard DVD player?
thanks josapii….how about playing standard DVD discs in a Blue Ray or HD DVD player? What would be the quality, and would there be any harm to the HD DVD player or the discs themselves?

  1. You cannot play an HD or Blu ray DVD on a regular DVD player. This is not possible. You can get a DVD upconverter to convert regular DVD’s to 1080p resolution, but a Blu ray or HD DVD will always be better quality!

You have to check each blu ray or HD dvd player, but I believe most of them ‘upconvert’ regular dvd’s to 1080p resolution. there is no harm in this. The only ‘issue’ is that a regular dvd at a higher resolution can look kind of ‘grainy’, depending on how good the upconverter in the player is. But most HD dvd and blu ray dvd players are pretty good at upconverting.
