You cannot play an HD or Blu ray DVD on a regular DVD player. This is not possible. You can get a DVD upconverter to convert regular DVD’s to 1080p resolution, but a Blu ray or HD DVD will always be better quality!
You have to check each blu ray or HD dvd player, but I believe most of them ‘upconvert’ regular dvd’s to 1080p resolution. there is no harm in this. The only ‘issue’ is that a regular dvd at a higher resolution can look kind of ‘grainy’, depending on how good the upconverter in the player is. But most HD dvd and blu ray dvd players are pretty good at upconverting.
